ASPIRE PRIVACY NOTICE
Effective Date: December 22, 2017.
This ASPIRE Privacy Notice describes how The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (“MD Anderson,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information about children (defined below) that we obtain through websites with URLs aspire.mdanderson.org; aspire2.mdanderson.org; and aspireadmin.mdanderson.org in connection with our ASPIRE program that are for children or both children and older users (“ASPIRE Pages”), and supplements our general Privacy Policy, which is incorporated herein by reference. With respect to such ASPIRE Pages, this ASPIRE Privacy Notice shall govern in the event of any conflict with the general Privacy Policy.
This ASPIRE Privacy Notice does not apply to our offline data collection activities, unless stated at the time of collection. The practices described in this ASPIRE Privacy Notice are not applied to protected health information.
ASPIRE Pages may be attractive to or even directed to children under the age of 13, however, that is not the primary intended audience. As a State of Texas government agency that conducts not-for-profit educational programs, the ASPIRE Program need not comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Act (“COPPA”) requirements. This enables us to more easily work with schools and community groups we partner with to provide the ASPIRE program to their students and members, and effective December 22, 2017 we will rely on our exemption from COPPA to share personal information collected from children with those and other parties, but we commit not to share Personal Information (as defined in our Privacy Policy) with third parties for their own direct marketing purposes without parental consent. Personal information as defined by COPPA collected by us on ASPIRE Pages prior to December 22, 2017, however, will be treated consistent with COPPA requirements.
If you are a parent or guardian and you have any question or concerns, please contact us at PrivacyCompliance@mdanderson.org or by sending a letter to the Chief Privacy Officer at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Institutional Compliance Office, Unit 1640, P.O. Box 301407, Houston, TX, 77230-1407, and we will address your request in accordance with applicable law.
We take reasonable measure to protect the security of the data we collect via the ASPIRE Pages, as more fully set forth in our Privacy Policy.
